Batu, February 9th, 2023 – PT United Tractors Tbk (UT) aims to support to increase the yield quality of local fruit cultivation by holding training in pest and plant disease control at the Mount Arjuno Area, Forest Management Unit (KPH) Malang, Batu City, on Friday January 27th, 2023. This activity was attended by forest cultivators (Pesanggem) who have planted 65 hectares of avocados in the area. The training material was delivered directly by the Lecturer of the Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Brawijaya University, Fery Abdul Choliq, S.P., M.P., M.Sc.
Data presented by Fery showed that the loss of avocado was mainly caused by disease (14.1%), pests (10.2%), and shrubs (12.2%). This condition is the reason behind UT’s training for farmers to help them recognize and decide the right actions to prevent and control plants from disease, pests and shrubs.
UT’s CSR Manager, Himawan Sutanto emphasized that this training is a strategic step for the Company in improving the community welfare around the business operation area. Therefore, UT took the initiative to enhance avocado production with better quality, thus escalating the quality of local farmers’ production, increasing the community’s economic added value, and reducing import frequency related commodities. On the other hand, this initiative is also expected to have a good impact on the stability of avocado products to ensure equitable distribution to all levels of society.
“The agricultural sector is one of the sectors with a large contribution to the Indonesian economy. Therefore, UT continues to encourage local farmers to maximize their entire potential in the hopes of advancing the farmers’ welfare, which in turn could to contribute in improving the local and national economy,” said Himawan Sutanto.
UTREES becomes one of UT’s initiatives that doesn’t only provide a good environmental impact but also developing economic community activities as a form of implementing ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) aspects. UT believes that a positive contribution through this training can create sustainable aspects for both the economy and the environment in order to achieve a prosperous Indonesian society.
In addition to the training for farmers, UT also provides pesticides as souvenirs which can later be used to treat avocado plants in the hope that farmers will be able to directly implement the materials they learned on disease control on their crop.
UT will consistently try to provide training to farmers so that they can assist in increasing avocado production in line with the consumption needs of the community. This situation is expected to enable and encourage farmers to be more active in cultivating fruit so that the results can meet domestic needs and have the opportunity as export commodity.
