United Tractors Chess Athlete FM Aditya Bagus Arfan Wins KU18 Silver Medal at the 2022 Asian Youth Chess Championship

Bali, October 20th,2022 – A talented young chess athlete fostered by PT United Tractors Tbk (UT) in the “Inspiring Youth” program, Fide Master (FM) Aditya Bagus Arfan won silver KU18 with rating 2341 in the classic chess match of the Asian Youth Chess Championship 2022 at the Grand Inna Hotel, Kuta, Bali 14-21 October 2022.

With the KU18 silver medal won by Aditya, the Indonesian chess sport now has more and more athletes who can compete in the national and international arenas. Even though he is only 16 years old, Aditya has managed to achieve international reputation.

In this match, Aditya had to admit the advantage of Vietnamese chess player FM Dao Minh Nhat rating 2331 who came out as champion by winning 7 points from 9 rounds. Dao is unbeaten after scoring five wins and four draws. In comparison, Aditya managed to get 6 points from four wins, four draws, and one loss. Despite losing the match against Dao in the sixth round, Aditya became one of the young Indonesian Chess Athletes who were able to compete tightly against other international athletes. In the future, Aditya will pursue the target of getting an International Master (IM) degree.

Aditya’s success in winning KU18 silver cannot be separated from UT’s full support through the Inspiring Youth program since 2017. This program is held to support outstanding young chess athletes in Indonesia. The support given by UT to Aditya is in the form of soft skill and hard skill training by bringing in foreign coaches, facilitating his participation in world-class championships, and training in sports psychology.
