PT United Tractors Tbk (UT), through its CSR program in the field of disasters (UTACTION), moved quickly to aid in overcoming forest and land fires (Karhutla) in the Mount Arjuno area, East Java, on (01/09/2023). This fire resulted in losses to flora and fauna in the area, where the area affected was around 916.33 hectares (ha), covering the areas of Batu City, Mojokerto Regency, Malang Regency, and Pasuruan Regency.
UT deployed a team of volunteers to assist with fire extinguishment. UT provided logistical assistance to firefighters, demonstrating the Company’s commitment to social responsibility and environmental protection.
UT CSR Manager Himawan Sutanto said that this forest and land fire is a severe disaster because it has a detrimental impact on the environment and human health. “UT understands the seriousness of the situation on Mount Arjuno, so we are committed to cooperating to handle and extinguish the fire by distributing disaster response assistance. “This is a form of commitment to always be consistent in implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) aspects to positively impact the environment and society,” said Himawan Sutanto.
UT collaborates with local authorities, such as the Batu City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob), to deal with forest and land fires. This partnership is a powerful example of how environmental challenges can be overcome quickly through effective collaboration.
The Acting Mayor of Batu, Aries Agung Paewai, has declared a state of emergency for the Mount Arjuno fire disaster in accordance with number 188.45/269/KEP/422.012/2023. This means that the Mount Arjuno forest and land fire disaster is now included in the emergency response status.
To extinguish the fire quickly, the Batu City BPBD conducted a water bombing operation. This was an important measure taken to prevent the fire from spreading and to minimize potential damage. UT remains committed to maintaining and protecting the environment, especially during emergency situations such as forest and land fires on Mount Arjuno. This is one way the company contributes to sustainability and adds value to Indonesian society.
