The Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, Alue Dohong, expressed his appreciation to the companies that received these awards. He hopes that, through this recognition, businesses will consistently create sustainable innovations that meet the community’s needs.

“Innovation in corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs serves as a platform to integrate research outcomes and new field knowledge to address social issues more efficiently while upholding local wisdom. Therefore, I believe that through ENSIA, we can encourage businesses to innovate in environmental and social aspects closely aligned with the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” said Alue Dohong.

This integration enhances the credibility of the ENSIA Award 2024 in recognizing companies that have successfully applied efficiency in balanced environmental, economic, and social management.

UT’s innovation in the Biodiversity Protection category includes the Biodiversity Partnership Program (BAPER), a collaborative effort to maintain forest sustainability and positively impact the local economy. UT’s Biodiversity Program includes the preservation of flora and fauna in the 20-hectare Campus Forest Park at IPB and the conservation of rare mangroves in the 29-hectare Mangrove Botanical Garden at Gunung Anyar, Surabaya. UT is one of the private entities collaborating with the East Java Provincial Food Security and Agriculture Service and the Mangrove Botanical Garden UPT to manage and realize Indonesia’s first Mangrove Botanical Garden. In Komadina, UT is involved in the conservation and revegetation of the 567-hectare Mount Arjuno Forest and the implementation of community empowerment activities through the 5-Pillar CSR program, covering Education, Health, Disaster Response, Environment, and Economy.

In the LB3 Reduction category, UT has created the Effective and Dynamic Management of B3 Waste (PEDULI) program. This program is implemented at UT’s head office, based on Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021 concerning implementing Environmental Protection and Management. The PEDULI program adopts the 6R principles (Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recovery, and Retrieve Energy). The program aims to reduce the amount of B3 waste produced, minimize the negative impacts of B3 waste on the environment and human health, and achieve cost savings or annual expenditure reductions through more efficient alternative materials.

In the 3R LPNB3 category, UT implements the 6R-PATH program: Weaving Sustainability Paths through 6R Strategies. This program is executed through several main categories, including infrastructure and community development, employee awareness enhancement, efficiency improvements in office activities, and process optimization in operational activities. The program aims to build an ecosystem aware of responsible waste management, process non-B3 waste into useful products for business activities, and contribute socially to the community by creating a circular economy.

Through this award, the UT Group remains committed to consistently creating innovations by providing the best solutions for the environment and society, contributing internally and externally, and fostering sustainability for a better future.
