Malang, January 11th,2023 – As a form of participation in celebrating One Million Tree Movement Day on January 10, PT United Tractors Tbk (UT) expanded its sustainability commitment by conserving forestry plants and revegetating in the forest area of Perum Perhutani, Forest Management Unit (KPH), Malang, Wednesday (11 /01). This planting is the fourth stage of the target 70,000 trees following the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreed upon by UT and Perum Perhutani KPH Malang.
This collaboration is UT’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions which is part of the Company’s target for environmental sustainability through Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) implementation aspects. On the other, this effort is also UT’s initiative to prevent extreme climate change and create a sustainable environment for Indonesia’s future.
UT’s CSR Manager, Himawan Sutanto, emphasized that UT commits to consistently carrying out CSR in the environmental sector UTREES (United Tractors for Nature and Environment Sustainability) by taking one concrete step through planting trees to create a carbon sequestration mechanism to achieve UT’s carbon emission reduction target by 2030.
“This tree planting collaboration is carried out to impact social, economic, and environmental aspects positively. For this reason, UT is very serious about doing this to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which prioritize ESG aspects, as well as support the government’s environmental and forestry program called FOLU Net Sink 2030, namely the target of climate change mitigation to reduce pollution, absorb CO2 and increase carbon stocks,” said Himawan Sutanto.

Collaboration between UT and Perum Perhutani to Reduce Carbon Emissions
The program contained in the UT MoU with Perum Perhutani KPH Malang is the conservation and revegetation of 567 hectares of forest located in the Sumbergondo, Bulukerto, Donowarih, Sumbul, and Toyomarto villages. Through planting and caring for these five villages, UT targets to be able to have a positive impact on the environment sustainably by doing several things such as managing forest resources with the community through collaboration and conservation, restoration of ecology, measurement and reporting of carbon sequestration, improving the quality of research, education, science development, knowledge, and technology in the conservation and revegetation of forest areas.
“The support provided by UT is urgently needed to facilitate the village government in restoring forest sustainability and damaged vegetation through planting and maintenance activities on former land use forest areas. If it has grown well, tree planting by UT will be an investment in the future for the next generation. Hopefully, the results of this planting can be utilized by the community wisely and as well as possible,” said Aji, Head of Sumbergondo Village.
In this activity, the type of plant chosen was Hass variety avocado. This type of plant was chosen because it has a promising business process. After all, the plants bear fruit faster than other plants and have higher productivity. On the other hand, domestic production of the Hass variety avocado is still insufficient, and its presence is still dominated by imports. Therefore, cultivating local Hass avocados can be a great opportunity and provide added value to the local community.
Through this collaboration, UT hopes to provide benefits effectively for environmental restoration, welfare, and sustainability of the surrounding community, and to build an inclusive, resilient and sustainable economy.
