PT United Tractors Tbk (UT) is actively demonstrating its commitment to clean energy by successfully obtaining Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) from PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) for the year 2024. These certificates encompass 28 operational locations, including UT’s Head Office (HO), branches, and various sites across Indonesia. As a result of these RECs, UT is able to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by up to 12,596 tons of CO2 equivalent. This initiative supports the company’s dedication to increasing the utilization of renewable energy, aligning with Astra’s 2030 Sustainability Aspirations.

Joice Lanny Wantania, the General Manager of PLN UID West Kalimantan, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “REC represents PLN’s commitment to providing environmentally friendly and sustainable energy solutions. We deeply appreciate UT’s proactive steps in supporting this program.”

In 2024, UT’s HO in Cakung, East Jakarta, receives 8,964 REC units, while a total of 5,730 REC units are allocated across 18 branches and nine operational sites in Indonesia. The branches include Surabaya, Balikpapan, Semarang, Manado, Samarinda, Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Jayapura, Banjarmasin, Bandar Lampung, Pontianak, Sorong, Jambi, Tarakan, Sampit, Palembang, and Makassar. Meanwhile, the operational sites include Tanjung Enim, Muara Lawa, Batulicin, Satui, Loa Janan Sanga, Tenggarong, Rantau, and Tanjung. From the total RECs, UT’s HO contributes to a reduction of 7,769 tons of CO2eq, while the branches and sites collectively reduce emissions by 4,827 tons of CO2eq.

“These RECs are an effort to reduce our carbon emissions and represent a strategic step in supporting clean energy transitions in the energy sector. We hope this initiative inspires other industries to actively adopt renewable energy to create a greener future,” says Bagus Setiawan, General Affairs and ESG Project Senior Manager at UT.

The electricity for these RECs is sourced from three primary renewable energy sources: the Ulubelu Hydropower Plant (PLTA), which utilizes the flow of the Way Semaka River in Tanggamus Regency, Lampung Province; the Bakaru Hydropower Plant (PLTA), which uses the flow of the Mamasa River in Pinrang and Tana Toraja Regencies, South Sulawesi Province; and the Lahendong Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP), which harnesses geothermal energy from the Mount Lokon area and the Lahendong Volcanic Area in Tomohon City, North Sulawesi Province.

UT ensures that its electricity is sourced from renewable energy through these RECs. This reflects the company’s commitment to supporting clean energy transitions by integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects into its business operations.
