Off-Grid PLTS project in the PAMA BAYA area, East Kalimantan.

Kutai Kartanegara, November 21, 2023 – In line with its business development strategy in the environmentally friendly energy sector, PT Energia Prima Nusantara (EPN) is committed to establishing renewable energy (RE) businesses. This time, EPN is striving to carry out a clean energy mix in the coal mining operational area by expanding its Off-Grid Solar Power Plant (PLTS) portfolio through the PT Pamapersada Nusantara (PAMA) project at its operational site, namely PAMA BAYA, East Kalimantan.

In this project, EPN and PAMA, which are subsidiaries of PT United Tractors Tbk (UT), implemented a PLTS with a total capacity of 340.36 kWp consisting of Workshop Plant Maintenance (47.96 kWp), Lower Area Solar Farming (149.6 kWp), Upper Area Solar Farming (142.8 kWp), and a 60 kWh battery, which was inaugurated on November 21, 2023.

PAMA’s CSR & General Affairs Division Head, TH Puguh Sasetyo, said that PAMA, as a strategic partner in this project, welcomes the implementation of RE in the mining industry. The project currently being carried out by PAMA is an effort by the company to prioritize sustainability principles by implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG).

“As one of the corporate strategies to overcome global warming, PAMA will continue to strive consistently to realize the use of cleaner and more sustainable energy. It is hoped that the installation of the Off-Grid PLTS at the PAMA BAYA Site can reduce carbon emissions in the coal mining area by up to 245 tons of CO2 per year. This is a form of commitment to preserving the environment in line with PAMA’s vision,” said TH Puguh Sasetyo.

This Off-Grid PLTS project is part of a joint effort by EPN and PAMA to reduce carbon emissions and create a cleaner environment. PLTS refers to a power plant system that uses solar energy to generate electricity. Meanwhile, Off-Grid indicates that this PLTS system operates independently and is not connected to the public electricity grid. This system is designed to provide electricity in isolated locations or those that do not have access to the public grid.

“Focusing on sustainability principles, we are committed to inviting stakeholders in the mining industry to implement clean energy by paying attention to environmental, economic, social, and good governance aspects. Through the use of solar panel technology, we are contributing to the creation of a better future by carrying out the decarbonization process in coal mining operations,” said EPN Director, Eko Harry Ariadin.

Through this initiative, EPN and PAMA hope to increase positive synergy and collaboration towards the goal of reducing carbon emissions in the coal mining operational area, while also maintaining harmonious relations with the environment for the sake of a better future for the next generation of Indonesia.
