Bekasi, November 29th, 2022 – PT United Tractors Tbk (UT) collaborated with the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service of West Java Province, TNI, and Polri to plant 10,550 mangrove trees at Muara Tawar, Bekasi Regency, West Java Province. This activity aims to support the preservation of mangrove forests in the area and is also a form of the Company’s contribution to realizing sustainability for the communities around the operational area through ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) implementation. Muara Tawar is not only focused in mangroves to provide benefits for environmental sustainability, but also introduce MSMEs as an effort to improve the economy of its surrounding community.
Mangroves planting is UT’s social responsibility in the field of environment or United Tractors for Nature and Environment Sustainability (UTREES) that focuses in conservation and afforestation, based on the issue of climate change which causes the threat of sinking in several areas on the north coast of Java island, including Jakarta. This activity is the implementation of the 14th SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) plan, which is to preserve sustainable marine and coastal management.
This activity is a follow-up to the target of planting 50,000 trees in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of UT. Apart from trees planting, UT also continues striving to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by implementing leading and environmentally friendly technological approaches through products, services, and business processes, to generate sustainable added value for the benefit of the nation.
“We hope that UT’s contribution can continue to be carried out consistently in the following years because this program has a broad positive impact on the environment and society. We hope that apart from consistently planting and MSMEs facilitation, UT can also provide training for the fishermen to increase their skills improve their economy.” said the Representative of the Office of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of West Java Province, Kholid.
Apart from contributing to the environmental sector, UT also assisted in the form of mosque renovations and life jacket assistance to community representatives who work as fishermen, especially for the community around Muara Tawar.
“As a form of commitment to environmental preservation, we will strive constantly to plant more trees in the future. Similar to the tree planting in Muara Tawar which has been carried out since 2012 until now,” said Himawan Sutanto, UT’s CSR Manager.
This mangrove planting program brings several benefits to the environment, including absorbing carbon, maintaining water and air quality, preventing coastal abrasion, providing habitat for marine biota, and creating an area for tourist attraction so that it can help improve the economy of the people around the Muara Tawar area.
