Jakarta, August 12, 2024 – As a form of effort to improve the quality of life in the community, PT United Tractors Tbk (UT) demonstrates its commitment by assisting the installment of a seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) system in Pyainemo, Raja Ampat Regency, West Papua Province. This program is initiated to provide access to clean water for the local community by changing seawater into suitable freshwater. In addition, UT also provides educational assistance in the form of school supplies to the Christian Education Foundation (YPK) Pniel Paam Elementary School and YPK Pniel Paam Junior High School in Raja Ampat. UT also assists the health sector by distributing health equipment packages to the Assistant Health Center on Paam Island and the Raja Ampat Regency Health Office (02/08/2024).

“The collaboration between the government and UT in this CSR program supports sustainable and environmentally friendly tourism development. In addition, with health and education assistance, we will strengthen the facilities and quality of services for the community. This collaboration is also an example of synergy that can greatly benefit the community. We hope this collaboration will continue and grow stronger in the future,” said the Regional Secretary of Raja Ampat, Dr. Yusuf Salim, M.Si.

The background of this SWRO assistance is referred to as Pyainemo’s geographical conditions. These conditions make water access difficult since Pyainemo is surrounded by the sea, and people must take water from other islands and districts. This technology removes salt and other harmful substances to produce safe water through advanced filtration. It can produce 250-300 liters of water per hour, so the community’s need for clean water is hoped to be met.

With the presence of SWRO, the Pyainemo community not only gets clean water for daily needs but is also expected to reduce dependence on unsuitable water sources. SWRO technology also supports environmental conservation efforts by efficiently utilizing existing resources.

In addition, the Pyainemo area’s location is difficult to reach, with many remote and isolated areas, making it difficult to access primary and secondary education and limited health care services. This is coupled with the population’s demographic conditions, consisting of various tribes with various languages and cultures, adding to the complexity of providing effective education and health services that meet the community’s needs. Because of this situation, UT sent education and health assistance in the hopes that the community would have easier access to these services.

“This activity demonstrates UT’s concern for the Pyainemo community, which has limited access to clean water, healthcare, and education. UT hopes this assistance will have a sustainable positive impact, especially in managing clean water sources for the community. We will also consistently support the community through implementing environmental, social, and governance (ESG),” said President Director UT Frans Kesuma.

This program’s beneficiaries are visitors to Pyainemo, teachers, and students of YPK Pniel Paam Elementary School and YPK Pniel Paam Junior High School, and 19,000 people have the potential to become beneficiaries in the next year.
