PT United Tractors Tbk (UT), a company renowned for being recognized as one of “The Best Companies to Work for in Asia,” is committed to providing top-notch facilities, including the construction of environmentally friendly buildings that have a positive impact on health and comfort. UT has achieved a record-breaking feat as the first privately-owned office building in Indonesia to be certified as a Greenship Net Zero Healthy Building by the Indonesian Museum of World Records (MURI).

This certification was conferred by the Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI), an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to public education in applying best environmental practices and facilitating sustainable building industry transformation. The Greenship Net Zero Healthy Building certificate was presented directly to Frans Kesuma, President Director of UT, on August 28, 2023, by GBCI representatives.

Sara K. Loebis, Head of the Corporate Governance and Sustainability Division at UT, emphasized that the company’s current endeavors are part of its initiative to prioritize sustainability principles by implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) aspects.

“As one of our corporate strategies to address global warming, UT has embedded sustainability principles in every aspect of our business operations, including energy efficiency and using Renewable Energy Sources (RES), while maximizing workplace health and comfort. This aligns with our commitment to support business sustainability. We hope this initiative will positively impact environmental sustainability,” said Sara K. Loebis.

Assessment criteria for the Net Zero Healthy Building certificate are based on several aspects, including compliance with building regulations (Building Permit, Environmental Management Efforts, and Environmental Monitoring Efforts), optimization of lighting, thermal comfort, and fresh air exchange within rooms, energy efficiency and conservation in lighting and air conditioning, as well as efforts to balance the overall carbon footprint of the building. This includes the installation of rooftop Solar Power Plants (SPP), using Renewable Energy Certificates (REC), and landscaping with green vegetation, covering 40% of the entire building area, including 38 types of trees capable of absorbing carbon.

UT Earns Greenship Existing Building Certificate as a Step Towards Building Sustainability

Simultaneously, UT received the Greenship Existing Building certificate from GBCI, earning the Platinum rating in both the Greenship New Building and Existing Building categories. This achievement is evidence of UT’s ongoing commitment to building a greener future for the Earth by creating sustainable infrastructure.

The Greenship Existing Building certification is awarded to buildings with a green building concept that qualifies and has been successfully maintained since the beginning of office operations. UT obtained the Greenship New Building certificate the previous year during the initial UT Head Office building construction.

Requirements for obtaining this certificate include a minimum land area of more than 2,500 square meters and compliance with environmental and building regulations. The assessment used in Greenship Existing Building comprises several categories, namely Appropriate Site Development (ASD), Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EEC), Water Conservation (WAC), Material Resources and Cycle (MRC), Indoor Health and Comfort (IHC), and Building Environment Management (BEM).

In its implementation, UT has incorporated various exterior and interior designs that follow environmentally friendly and sustainable concepts. For example, the elevated inner courtyard in the 10-story building allows natural light and fresh air to flow throughout the development, thus conserving energy. This space incorporates photovoltaic façade panels (solar panels), green walls, and environmentally friendly water treatment systems, further enhancing its environmental sustainability.

Moreover, regarding Appropriate Site Development, UT boasts a green area spanning 10,399 square meters, equivalent to 44% of the total area, consisting of green land, vertical gardens, and roof gardens. With ample green space in the office area, UT encourages its employees to lead a healthy lifestyle while supporting a reduction in the use of motor vehicles by providing 100 dedicated bicycle parking slots. UT also adopts a zero-runoff concept to reduce rainwater runoff volume, thereby relieving the strain on the city’s drainage system.

UT prioritizes employee comfort, and the company is committed to creating a positive and sustainable environment for the surrounding community. For UT, sustainability means more than just providing quality products and services; it also involves adding value to stakeholders in line with the value chain, environmental conservation, and the broad-based welfare improvement of society.
