Mataram, April 15, 2025 – As part of its effort to expand access to education, UT School, an educational institution under the Karya Bakti United Tractors Foundation (YKBUT), has launched a new class for the Heavy Equipment Mechanic Study Program located at SMKN 6 Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara Province (NTB). This new class brings the total number of UT School learning points to 25 across Indonesia. This initiative reflects UT School’s continued commitment to improving the quality of human resources (HR) by providing educational opportunities, especially for vocational high school graduates in NTB.
“I would like to express my appreciation to PT United Tractors Tbk (UT) for their contribution, not only in material terms but also in terms of moral support. This new class represents a long-term investment in HR development in NTB, aligning with the government’s vision to strengthen vocational education,” said the Governor of NTB, Lalu Muhamad Iqbal.
Launching this heavy equipment program is part of UT School’s support for government efforts to realize a link and match between schools and industry. Students training at UT School will be prepared to become mechanics—a profession vital to supporting industries such as mining, plantations, agriculture, and construction.
In his remarks, UT Director Edhie Sarwono emphasized that UT School offers an integrated education model that has proven successful in various regions across Indonesia. Through this approach, UT School graduates are equipped with technical skills, national certifications, and job opportunities domestically and abroad.
“We believe structured vocational education is key to eradicating poverty and advancing society. Even if graduates are not absorbed directly into the workforce, they will have sufficient skills to become independent entrepreneurs. That is the essence of UT School—empowering youth to build their future,” he stated.
During the recruitment phase, 290 students from various vocational and high schools in NTB participated in a rigorous selection process, which included psychological tests, interviews, and medical checkups. From this process, 21 outstanding students were selected to join the 37th batch of UT School Mataram and Sumbawa. They will undergo a one-year Basic Mechanic Course consisting of intensive training and on-the-job apprenticeships in the industry.
Throughout the training period, students will go through various stages of learning, including Mental and Character Building (Bintalsik), In-Class Training, On-the-Job Training (OJT), Oral Examinations, OJT Report Presentations, Certification, and Graduation. The curriculum is designed to produce mechanics who are not only technically proficient but also professional and globally minded.
During the event, UT School also symbolically handed over educational support donations to SMKN 6 Mataram, including a safety center, one unit of training vehicle, a digital library, and additional training tools. This support aims to enhance the quality of vocational education in NTB.
The inauguration was attended by the Head of the Department of Manpower and Transmigration of NTB Province, I Gede Putu Aryadi; Infantry Colonel Wirawan Eko, S.E., M.H; Head of the Regional Education Office for West Sumbawa, Suprianto; Head of the Regional Education Office for LBM, Muhajidin; Astra NTB Affco Branch Head, UT customers and business partners, principals of SMK/SMA across NTB Province, school committees, and students. Meanwhile, from UT, the event was attended by YKBUT Chairwoman Endang Tri Handajani; UT School Director Mochamad Hamdan Aziz; and UT Corporate Social Responsibility Manager Himawan Sutanto.
The presence of UT School in Mataram is expected to open up opportunities for local NTB youth to grow within the heavy equipment industry and develop into professional, certified mechanics with a global perspective.
