UT School, an educational institution under the auspices of the Karya Bakti United Tractors Foundation (YKBUT), holds the Heavy Equipment Operator Training Batch II in Merauke Regency, South Papua Province. This program aims to produce skilled heavy equipment operators from indigenous Papuans to support land clearing and preparation for the food estate development in the eastern region. The training takes place at the Headquarters of the 11th Combat Engineer Battalion (Denzipur 11/Mit Anim) from February 12 to March 10, 2025.

In his speech, the Deputy Governor of South Papua, Paskalis Imadawa, expresses his appreciation for the synergy between UT School and Denzipur 11/Mit Anim, which significantly benefits the younger generation in Merauke Regency. “I would like to thank UT School, Denzipur, the instructors, and all stakeholders who support the implementation of this training. Hopefully, more indigenous youth from South Papua participate in Batch III, especially those residing in areas impacted by National Strategic Programs or other projects,” says Paskalis Imadawa.

Meanwhile, the Director of UT School, Mochamad Hamdan Aziz, reaffirms UT’s commitment through YKBUT to developing human resources, particularly among indigenous communities in Merauke. He hopes that the training has a positive and sustainable impact on South Papua. “We appreciate the support from Denzipur 11/Mit Anim and all stakeholders for the collaboration that we established. This partnership is a concrete form of our contribution to supporting the Government’s National Strategic Program,” says Hamdan Aziz.

This training aligns with the Indonesian Government’s efforts to open one million hectares of land in Merauke as part of the National Strategic Program to improve food supply. The success of this program requires cross-sector collaboration, including active involvement from the business sector.

In its implementation, Batch II training includes 12 selected participants out of 108 applicants. The program begins with a three-day Mental and Attitude Development session (Bintaslik) at the Denzipur 11/Mit Anim Headquarters in Tanah Miring District, Merauke. This is followed by five days of in-class training that provides theoretical knowledge on heavy equipment operation.

The program continues with 16 days of basic hands-on training on operating hydraulic excavators, with each participant expected to achieve a minimum of 10 hours of operational time. As the final stage, participants undergo three months of On-the-Job Training to further hone their skills in real working environments. Through this training, all participants are expected to operate hydraulic excavators safely and correctly and apply these skills in the workforce.

Through this initiative, UT School aims to expand the benefits of vocational education across various regions and foster a generation of outstanding Papuan youth who are job-ready and competitive in the heavy equipment industry.
