PT United Tractors Tbk (UT) collaborates with PT Yayasan Karya Bakti UT (YKBUT) in organizing the 2024 UT Fostered School (SOBAT) Competition. This event aims to foster, accommodate, and channel creative and innovative ideas from the younger generation, so they are ready to enter the world of work and industry. The 2024 SOBAT Competition carries the theme “Empowered and Innovative Young Generation to Achieve Sustainable Development” in support of the vision and mission of Indonesia Emas 2045. In its implementation, this competition takes place for six months from May to October 2024. The winners were announced at the Grand Ballroom of the UT Head Office in Jakarta, right at the height of the UT Anniversary celebration on (18/10/2024).
“The 2024 SOBAT Competition program serves as proof of UT’s commitment to implementing the fourth point of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely Quality Education by providing equal opportunities and access for the younger generation to technical, vocational, and higher education. In addition, this competition is also a concrete step from the 14 pillars of the SOBAT program to foster and channel creative and innovative ideas from students, vocational students, and teaching staff,” said Himawan Sutanto, UT CSR Manager.
SOBAT Competition is a competition held by UT for students, teachers, and lecturers in the vocational field which aims to encourage the development of innovations in appropriate tools or technologies that are useful, as well as support competence, application of science, and sustainability for the future. The lack of innovation in vocational programs is the reason behind the 2024 SOBAT Competition. As a result, UT uses competitions to give teaching staff and the younger generation chances to become more competent. The assessment of this competition is based on the benefits of highly competitive innovations.
This year, the competition was attended by high school/vocational high school/equivalent students, Polytechnic/University students, teachers, and lecturers. Meanwhile, the jury for this competition consists of Experts from various industrial fields including the UT Group, namely UT School, PT Triatra Sinergia Pratama (Triatra), PT Pamapersada Nusantara (PAMA), and PT Acset Indonusa Tbk (ACSET); PT Traktor Nusantara (Traknus); PT Astra International Tbk (AI); representatives of the Indonesian Heavy Equipment Professional Certification Institute (LSP ABI), Lecturers from Swiss German University (SGU); Experts from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemendikbud Ristek), Lecturers from the Vocational School of Gadjah Mada University (UGM), and representatives from the Astra Education Foundation – Michael D. Ruslim (YPA-MDR).
Since its launch in 2019, the SOBAT Competition has received a very positive response from various groups, from vocational schools, high schools, polytechnics, and universities. This is demonstrated by the fact that the number of participants increasing annually has increased to 847 innovations this year, up from 462 innovations in 2023. The 2024 SOBAT Competition also has new categories, namely the SMK Teaching Factory Category, Lecturer Category, and Teacher Category. The increasingly widespread participation from various educational institutions shows the extraordinary enthusiasm of the younger generation to continue to innovate and develop new ideas.
This year, there are five finalists in each of the six categories, which include both group and individual categories. The SMA/MA General Category, SMK General Category, SMK Teaching Factory (TeFa) Category, and Polytechnic/University comprise the group/team category. The Teacher Category and the Lecturer Category are under the individual category. Overall, there are 30 finalists, consisting of 20 teams and 10 individuals.
The innovation collection series has multiple stages. First, participants will create and collect abstracts of the innovations offered. Furthermore, participants are required to compile journals and prototype designs from previously submitted abstracts. Finally, participants who pass will receive financial subsidies to create previously designed prototypes. Additionally, mentors from the SOBAT Competition 2024 team will provide direct assistance to participants.
It is hoped that the 2024 SOBAT Competition program can drive interest in competing and improve the achievements of the younger generation through the creation of innovation. In addition, it can create high competitiveness, resilience, and be able to provide positive contributions in the future. This is in line with the Company’s commitment to implementing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects in order to realize the sustainability and welfare of the Indonesian people around its operational areas.
