Semarang, October 22, 2024As a form of commitment to supporting sustainability through the Company’s communication aspect, PT United Tractors Tbk (UT) together with PT Pamapersada Nusantara (PAMA), PT Kalimantan Prima Persada (KPP Mining), PT Agincourt Resources (PTAR), and PT Energia Prima Nusantara (EPN) organized the 2024 United Tractors Group Journalist Workshop. The theme of this event is “Embracing Diversity, Strengthening Unity, and Maintaining Peace for Sustainability”. There were 20 national media journalists, 23 local journalists from Semarang and Central Java, and the person in charge (PIC) of Corporate Communications (Corcom) of UT Group who attended this event at the Ballroom A Hotel Tentrem, Semarang, Central Java.

This event was organized as an effort by the Company to strengthen relations with the media and support the principles of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) through journalism that prioritizes diversity and peace. The speakers at this event were the Chairman of the Foreign Policy Community Indonesia (FPCI), former Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the United States and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Dino Patti Djalal, and Senior Journalist, Desi Fitriani. Meanwhile, the discussion session was moderated by a Senior Journalist, Political Observer, and General Chairperson of the Indonesian Cyber Media Network (JMSI), Teguh Santosa, with the theme “Panel Discussion on Peace Journalism”.

Dr. Dino Patti Djalal began the discussion by explaining seven events demonstrating Indonesia’s diplomacy in resolving conflicts at home and abroad from the Old Order era to post-reformation. Each event provided valuable insights that he could use for future learning.

“Being sincere is one method of resolving conflicts both domestically and internationally. Ali Alatas, the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1988 to 1999, did not work for personal gain when promoting peace in Cambodia. He was a true statesman, low profile, and truly worked for peace genuinely by understanding in detail the contents of the agreement documents offered,” said Dr. Dino Patti Djalal.

Meanwhile, Desi Fitriani, on this occasion, shared stories about coverage of conflicts that occurred in several countries, such as Gaza, Palestine, South Mindanao, the Philippines, and Timor Leste. Desi Fitriani also invited journalists to understand the importance of reporting accurate facts in conflict events. The material presented aims to provide insight into the challenges and diversity that can be applied in journalism.

Teguh Santosa, who moderated the discussion, said that one of the problems journalists have in covering conflicts is perception, where conflict must end with the victory of one party and the defeat of the other. “This combative lens must be removed so journalists can see the conflict situation more clearly. In addition, it is necessary to present another more humanistic side that offers alternative solutions to every problem that occurs in the conflict,” said Teguh Santosa.

In her remarks, UT Corporate Secretary Sara K. Loebis emphasized the crucial role of the media in maintaining harmony amidst this diversity. The media has a great influence on maintaining national unity. Through balanced and objective coverage, it can strengthen the message of peace and sustainability for Indonesia’s future.

“It is hoped that this event will strengthen cooperation between the media and the UT Group and support the creation of more balanced and objective news. In addition, we hope that the media can become a strategic partner to provide accurate information that contributes to Indonesia’s development. This collaboration is crucial to maintain transparency and encourage sustainability in various sectors,” said Sara K. Loebis.

By upholding the values of diversity and unity, UT Group strives to play an active role in sustainability issues and a positive impact on society. This workshop is one of the Company’s contributions to strengthening sustainability communication and establishing synergy with the media to realize a better future.
